Death toll of quake in Turkey exceeds 1,000 - media

ISTANBUL. Feb 6 (Interfax) - The death toll of an earthquake, which hit southern Turkey in the early hours of Monday, has reached 1,014 people according to updated data, the Anadolu news agency reported with reference to local authorities.

Turkey has previously reported 912 deaths and over 5,400 injured.

The death toll of the same earthquake in Syria reached 592. More than 1,000 suffered injuries there.

The powerful earthquake in Turkey and Syria and its aftershocks resulted in the collapse of numerous buildings in several provinces, and the tremors were felt by residents of Lebanon, Jordan and Israel. Turkey later reported another strong earthquake this afternoon. There is no data on further damage and casualties due to it yet.
