Ukraine set to commission 500MW green generation facilities, increase electricity imports to 2,000MW - energy minister

MOSCOW. Feb 6 (Interfax) - Ukraine is set to commission 500MW renewable energy generation facilities in 2023 and to increase electricity imports from Europe to 2,000 MW in the near future.

"We will be developing green energy integrated into the European economy. For instance, this year we are planning to commission up to 500 MW facilities," the Ukrainian media quoted Energy Minister German Galushchenko as saying at the Ukraine-EU summit on Friday.

In his words, Ukraine will become a major energy hub of Europe and will help balance the European energy system in the light of the expected electricity deficit in Europe.

Yet for now Ukraine needs to increase electricity imports from Europe to 2,000 MW amid power shortages, Galushchenko said.

"Now we need support by electricity imports. A decision to increase electricity imports by Ukraine to 2 GW will half the deficit," he said.
