Borrell announces allotment of 25 mln euros for demining operations in Ukraine
BRUSSELS. Feb 3 (Interfax) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced the allotment of 25 million euros for demining Kiev-controlled territories on the sidelines of the EU-Ukraine summit in Kiev on Friday, the European External Action Service (EEAS) said.
"We will provide up to 25 million euros to support demining efforts in these endangered areas. Protecting civilians and their livelihood is a priority," Borrell said.
"Demining is therefore very important so that the reconstruction can proceed safely," he said.
According to EEAS, the extra funds will be spent on equipment for Ukrainian state mine action operators and support for the effective management of such work by the Ukrainian authorities.
