Hungary ramps up proceedings to ensure purchases of gas from Azerbaijan ASAP

BAKU. Feb 3 (Interfax) - Hungary expects to start purchasing gas from Azerbaijan in the very near future, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto posted on social media.

"Our goal is to deliver natural gas from Azerbaijan to the Hungarian market as soon as possible," Szijjarto posted.

Szijjarto added that, "There will be no real diversification [of supplies] without Azerbaijani gas. Hungary expects to start buying Azerbaijani gas in the very near future. Therefore, Budapest is negotiating with Turkey, through whose territory Azerbaijani gas will be supplied."

The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Hungary, Jeyhun Bayramov and Szijjarto, met on Friday in Baku.

"Less than a week ago [on January 30], we met with Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Budapest, where we agreed [to raise] cooperation between our countries to a new level. In this sense, we are continuing our joint work in Baku today," Szijjarto said.
