Romania signing new gas purchasing agreement with Azerbaijan for 2023-2024

BAKU. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced the signing of a new contract for the purchase of Azerbaijani gas.

"Romania has been buying gas from Azerbaijan since January. Tomorrow, the state oil companies of both countries, Romgaz and SOCAR, will sign a new contract. Based on this, additional volumes of gas will be supplied to our country in 2023-2024," Iohannis said in a press statement in Baku on Thursday following talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Azerbaijani gas supplies to Romania will be sent through the TAP gas pipeline, he said.

As previously reported, on December 16, 2022, SOCAR signed a contract with Romgaz S.A. for the supply of Azerbaijani gas starting in 2023. Officially, the parties did not disclose the details, but, according to European media, the signed short-term spot contract provides for the supply of up to 300 million cubic meters of gas from SOCAR from January 1 to April 1, 2023. The daily volume of deliveries will be up to 4.2 mcm.
