IOC to hold consultations with int'l federations on conditions for clearing Russia's, Belarus' athletes for 2024 Olympics qualifying tournaments - ROC head

MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - International sports federations and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will hold consultations to draw up criteria for Russian and Belarusian athletes to be cleared for qualifying competitions ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics, Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Secretary General Rodion Plitukhin said.

"At this point, they're talking about criteria and possible conditions for the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes, not to the Olympic Games but to the qualifying international competitions and qualifying tournaments, which are completely under the jurisdiction of the international sports federations. This is what IOC is now discussing individually with the international sports federations," the ROC press service quoted Plitukhin as saying.

"In the current situation, the ROC will, in turn, engage all its resources and capabilities to elaborate a well-balanced approach and algorithm of action with regard to participation in the Olympic Games," he said.

ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov earlier condemned the idea of boycotting the Olympic Games by Russian athletes.
