Novatek plans to commission LNG terminal at Kamchatka at end of 2023 - corporation

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATKA. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Murmansk-based Arctic Transshipment LLC, a subsidiary of PJSC Novatek , plans to accelerate the process for constructing an LNG terminal at Kamchatka, and to launch it at the end of this year, the press service for the Corporation for Developing the Far East and the Arctic said in a statement.

"Our company operates two offshore liquefied natural gas transshipment complexes, at the eastern and western ends of the Arctic sea route, at Kamchatka and in the Murmansk Region. They will become an integral part of the LNG logistics scheme of Novatek's projects. The overall capacity of both terminals for transshipping LNG will exceed 40 million tonnes per year, which should contribute to boosting cargo turnover along the Northern Sea Route (NSR). We are implementing projects at an accelerated pace, and we expect to launch the Kamchatka project at the end of 2023," Yury Safyanov, CEO of Arctic Transshipment, said in the statement.

Additionally, Arctic Transshipment LLC has reportedly obtained status as a resident of the Kamchatka advanced special economic zone (ASEZ). The company had previously become a resident of the Arctic advanced special economic zone (ASEZ) in Murmansk.

The volume of investments in the Kamchatka project will be 6 billion rubles.

The project of the offshore transshipment complex at Bechevinskaya Bay involves delivering LNG from the Arctic fields to the transshipment complex by high-ice-class gas carriers for further transporting the gas on conventional vessels to consumers in the Asia-Pacific region, with transshipping through floating gas storage facilities, or by the "board-to-board" in-board method.

"The project is currently completing construction of a floating gas storage facility, and an approach channel with length over six kilometers and a berth for the port fleet. There are plans to implement systems for managing the safe movement of ships and conducting dredging," the press service clarifies.

Arctic Transshipment LLC operates the two LNG transshipment complexes under construction at Kamchatka and the Murmansk Region. The terminals are designed to ensure efficient LNG transportation from Arctic LNG 2 and other Novatek projects by organizing reloading from Arc7 ice-class LNG tankers to conventional vessels. Each of the terminals includes a floating LNG storage facility with capacity of 360,000 cubic meters, and with two "board-to-board" transshipment points.

According to the Unified State Registry of Legal Entities (USRLE), Novatek owns a 90% stake in Arctic Transshipment LLC.
