Ukrainian minister, UNHCR representative sign memorandum on launching joint project

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister for the Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Alexander Kubrakov and Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Ukraine Karolina Lindholm Billing have signed a memorandum of understanding and launched the Ukraine is Home project.

"The project is aimed at facilitating access to solutions on rebuilding damaged and destroyed housing for Ukrainians," Ukrainian media reported with reference to a post by parliamentarian Yelena Shulyak, head of the Verkhovna Rada's Committee on Regional Development.

The project's key principles include promoting reconstruction using environmentally sustainable and energy efficient methods, ensuring access to housing and services to people with impaired mobility.

As reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada in April 2022 passed at the first reading a bill providing compensation for destroyed or damaged housing registered in the Diia e-governance system. Ukrainians have filed over 318,000 applications for compensation for damaged property whose overall floor area exceeds 22 million square meters.
