Zelensky meets with Johnson, repeats that NATO membership would be best security guarantee for Ukraine

MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met with former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday.

"I welcome Boris Johnson, a true friend of Ukraine, to Kiev. Boris, thanks for support," the Ukrainian media quoted Zelensky as saying on a social network.

The media also quoted a statement by the Ukrainian presidential press service, which said that Zelensky noted the active public support by the British politician. "I have heard the statements you made in Davos. Thank you for supporting our country," Zelensky said.

Zelensky and Johnson exchanged views on the practical steps Johnson could take to help Ukraine.

Security guarantees for Ukraine were yet another item on the agenda. "I have no doubt that NATO membership would be the best guarantee for us. It is important to actively promote the opinion that our country should become a member of the alliance," Zelensky said.
