Power consumption declining in Ukraine amid warm weather, but supply deficit persists - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. Jan 19 (Interfax) - The Ukrenergo power grid operator expects power consumption in Ukraine to decrease on January 19 thanks to warmer air temperatures as compared to what it was on January 18, adding, however, that the considerable capacity shortage persists in the energy system due to the damage caused to power lines and generating facilities.

"The 24-hour consumption limits have been introduced in all regions. Exceeding these limits causes the risk of emergencies in the energy system. That is why, emergency power outages are being used to prevent them," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Ukrenergo as saying in a social media post.

Ukrenergo said that it finished repairs at an autotransformer at a substation in the Dnepropetrovsk region on Wednesday.

Ukrenergo reduced the daytime power supply limits for January 19 by approximately 1.5%-1.6%, according to earlier reports citing grid operators. However, Kiev and the Kiev and Odessa regions, which have faced emergency power cuts since January 14, will reinstate hourly power supply schedules from Thursday.
