Kissinger says Ukraine should enter into NATO in future

PARIS. Jan 18 (Interfax) - Former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said he had changed his mind about Ukraine's entry into NATO and now thinks that Kiev should be admitted to the alliance in the future.

"I believe the Ukrainian membership in NATO would be an appropriate outcome," Kissinger said in his video address at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday.

In the past, Kissinger was advocating a settlement, in which Ukraine would be a neutral state unaffiliated to military alliances.

"The idea of neutral Ukraine under these conditions is no longer meaningful," he said on Tuesday.

In addition, Kissinger called for dialogue with Moscow in order to find a solution to the Ukrainian conflict. He called for preventing a war between the West and Russia and said that Moscow should have a chance for reintegration into the international system once the Ukrainian crisis was settled.
