Russia proposes extending zero duty on importing containers to EAEU until year-end - EEC

MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - Russia has proposed to its partners in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to extend until the end of 2023 the zero import duty rate on certain types of containers.

"The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has received an initiative proposal from Russia on establishing the import customs duty rate of the EAEU unified customs tariff at 0% of the customs value for certain types of containers (EAEU Trade Import and Export Classification code 8609 00 900 9) from March 1 to December 31, 2023, inclusive," the EEC said in a statement along with the draft decision published on the commission's website for public discussion.

The EEC cites Russia's position, according to which "reducing the rates on import customs duties should have an incentivizing effect on renewing and saturating the container fleets of Russian logistics operators, and should also ensure saturating the domestic market with the necessary goods."

As previously reported, the EEC board in April 2022 decided to zero out the rates on import customs duties from March 28, 2022, to September 30, 2022, then extended the decision in September until February 28, 2023. The import duty for containers is 10% of the customs value without accounting for the zeroing.
