Ukraine still facing power shortages - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax) - Power consumption limits for the period for time between 2:00 a.m. and midnight were introduced in all of Ukraine's regions for January 13 with the aim of maintaining the balance in the country's energy system, the Ukrenergo power grid operator said.

As of 11:00 a.m. on January 13, power consumption was at yesterday's level, which means that the capacity shortage persists in the energy system, Ukrenergo said on social media.

This deficit is particularly noticeable during consumption peaks in the morning and in the evening, the company said.

"Every distribution system operator in its region compiles hourly blackout schedules, which are meant to ensure that the region's power supply matches the existing limits," it said.

Emergency blackouts serve to prevent energy system emergencies, which may occur when consumption limits are exceeded, Ukrenergo said.

At the same time, Ukrenergo believes that power consumption will decrease as air temperatures are expected to rise across Ukraine this coming weekend.
