Ukrenergo keeps 24-hour consumption limits on Jan 11 due to growing power shortage

MOSCOW. Jan 11 (Interfax) - As of 10:00 a.m. on January 11, power consumption in Ukraine grew due to low air temperatures in the country's eastern and central regions, leading to an increase in capacity shortages.

"In order to maintain the balance in the energy system, 24-hour consumption limits have been introduced in all regions," Ukrainian media outlets said, citing information circulated by the Ukrenergo power grid operator on social media on Wednesday.

However, these limits were critically exceeded in the Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov region from 7:00 a.m., prompting local services to resort to emergency blackouts in order to maintain the stable functioning of the energy system, the company said.

Gusty winds in a number of regions are continuing to damage distribution system operators' networks, where repairs are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the power supply situation in the country's eastern and southern regions remains difficult due to the significant damage inflicted on power infrastructure.

As of today, the energy system remains unable to cover the country's electricity needs in full, Ukrenergo said.

As reported, Ukrenergo reinstated round-the-clock power consumption limits on Tuesday, January 10.
