European Commission executive vice-president discussing Ukraine recovery plan in Kiev

BRUSSELS. Jan 9 (Interfax) - European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans is visiting Kiev on Monday and is expected to discuss a Ukraine recovery plan with Ukrainian government officials, the European Commission reported.

In particular, Timmermans should discuss "concrete support to the energy sector and energy supply, as well as the government's plan for Ukraine's reconstruction," it said.

Timmermans is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and a number of high-ranking government officials to discuss the situation in Ukraine and urgent needs on the ground.

In particular, Timmermans should have negotiations with Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, and other officials.

"The EU supports the reconstruction of Ukraine based on the European Green Deal objectives, in light of its path to EU membership as well as the future competitiveness of its economy, placing renewable energy development and just transition at the heart of the country's reconstruction plans," the European Commission said.
