Russia extends ban on rice exports for H1 - resolution

MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Russia has extended the ban on exports of rice and rice groats for the first half of 2023.

The ban will be in effect from January 1 to June 30, 2023, inclusive, a government resolution signed on December 30 and posted on the official website for legal information said. It applies to exports outside of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) of rice (EAEU customs doe 1006) and rice groats (code 1103 19 500 0). There are no restrictions on exporting these products to other EAEU countries.

Russia banned rice exports last July 1 until December 31, 2022 inclusive in order to ensure sufficient supply on the domestic market. Concerns were raised by an accident last April at the Fyodorov hydro system in Krasnodar Territory (the country's main rice producer) that reduced Russia's rice harvest to 797,600 tonnes in 2022 from 1.076 million tonnes in 2021. This was the first figure below 1 million tonnes in recent years. Russia harvested 1.142 million tonnes of rice in 2020 and 1.099 million tonnes in 2019. Prior to the hydrosystem accident, the rice harvest had been forecast to total 1.1 million tonnes in 2022.
