Ukraine adopts whole package of European standards - Economy Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 30 (Interfax) - Director of Ukraine's National Committee for Standardization Oleg Shvydky has signed an order on the package adoption of the CEN-CENELEC European regulatory documents by Ukraine, Ukrainian media said, citing the website of the Economy Ministry.

"The adoption of European standards and their introduction to the Ukrainian economy will help expedite the ratification of the Agreement on Access of Ukrainian Goods to the EU Market [ACAA] and will open up new opportunities and prospects for Ukrainian business," the Economy Ministry said.

Ukraine's National Committee for Standardization, backed by the Economy Ministry, took joint steps with CEN-CENELEC experts to update the base of European standards and explore legal foundations, thus allowing Ukraine to adopt the whole package of European standards as its national standards, it said.

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) jointly form Europe's technical standardization system. Standards agreed by these agencies are regularly adopted by a large number of non-European countries, which abide by Europe's technical standards.
