UN's WFP holding tender to buy 75,000 tonnes of Ukrainian agricultural products

MOSCOW. Dec 28 (Interfax) - The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) is holding a tender for the purchase of 75,000 tonnes of agricultural products for Ethiopia and Yemen as part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative.

This information was unveiled on December 26 at a meeting between Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and food Nikolai Solsky and a WFP delegation led by the program's Representative and Country Director for Ukraine Matthew Hollingworth, Ukrainian media said, citing the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The parties discussed the implementation of the Grain from Ukraine initiative and measures of cooperation.

Three vessels carrying 80,000 tonnes of grain for Ethiopia and Somalia have already departed Ukrainian ports under this initiative, Solsky said.

As reported, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on December 27 announced the start of tenders by Ukraine's State Emergency Service to purchase 59,000 tonnes of wheat of at least third grade quality, which will be delivered to countries of Africa and Asia as part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative.

Last week, the Ukrainian government ordered that the amount of humanitarian aid for African and Asian countries be increased by an additional 21,000 tonnes of corn or wheat, a move that will allow Sudan, Yemen, Kenya, and Nigeria to receive up to 210,000 tonnes of grain from Ukraine.

More than 30 countries and international organizations had joined the Grain from Ukraine initiative by late November 2022, raising more than $180 million in total.
