Ukrainian energy minister says power grid situation improving

MOSCOW. Dec 28 (Interfax) - Ukraine has managed to increase generation capacity and repair damaged power transmission lines to a significant extent, yet the power grid situation remains difficult, Ukrainian media quoted Energy Minister German Galushchenko as saying.

"The system is working much better," Galushchenko said in the United News telethon on Tuesday evening.

In turn, Yasno General Director Sergei Kovalenko said that power supply to Kiev was stable and electricity was equally distributed through temporary reconnection schemes.

"Power supply to Kiev has been stable. Clearly, there are restrictions but the supply is stable. We manage to equally distribute these amounts through temporary reconnection schemes," the Ukrainian media quoted Kovalenko as saying on a social network.

Yet it is hard to tell what happens to the equipment if temperatures fall and consumption grows, Kovalenko said.
