Curfew not to be lifted in Ukraine on New Year's night - police

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - The curfew in Ukraine will not be lifted on New Year's night, and its violators will be detained, Ukrainian National Police spokesperson Maryana Reva said.

"People should understand that, regardless of whether it's a holiday or not, there are certain curfew requirements. Police will check people, check their IDs, and bring them to police stations to identify their identity or check them," Ukrainian media quoted Reva as saying during a TV marathon in the early hours of Monday.

People walking out of their homes on New Year's night could be held liable for breaching the curfew, she said.

The sale and use of fireworks are banned virtually in all of Ukraine, and police will curb any attempts to bypass this ban, she said.
