Ukraine severs agreements with Belarus on military, military-technical cooperation, withdraws from CIS agreement on military pensioners

MOSCOW. Dec 23 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government resolved at a meeting on Friday to terminate agreements with the Belarusian government on military and military-technical cooperation, Ukrainian media reported citing government envoy to the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnichuk as saying on social media on Friday.

In particular, the Ukrainian government terminated an agreement with the Belarusian government dated December 16, 1994 on mutual shipments of weapons, military hardware, and other materiel and services for defense and security needs in 1995.

The government also terminated an April 16, 2001 agreement on confidence and security building measures, an October 18, 2005 agreement on joint research and development in the field of weapons and military hardware, an October 18, 2005 agreement on the mutual protection of rights to results of intellectual activity created and presented during bilateral military-technical cooperation, and a July 17, 1995 agreement on air services signed in Minsk.

The Ukrainian government also decided to withdraw from the agreement on pension support for military service members and their families and on state insurance of military service members from the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) signed on May 15, 1992, Melnichuk said.
