Russia provides BRICS members with satellite imagery of 85,000 square km in 2022 - Russian Space Systems

MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - Russia provided BRICS members with imagery of over 85,000 square kilometers from national satellites in 2022, the press service for the Russian Space Systems holding of Roscosmos said.

"The remote sensing data was provided by the Russian Space Systems holding's Center for Operational Monitoring of the Earth under last year's agreement on the exchange of information with BRICS members in the context of climate change, environmental protection and mitigation of natural and man-made emergencies and catastrophes," the press service said.

"Specialists of the remote sensing system operator, the Center for Operational Monitoring of the Earth, provided space imagery of BRICS territories under a contract with Roscosmos and consistent with the respective requests," the press service quoted Sergei Ivanov, head of the center's operative monitoring and remote sensing data analysis department, as saying.

In the course of a pilot project, Russia processed foreign data to assess the condition of forest ecosystems in the western part of the Altai-Sayan region, he said.

"A mechanism of remote sensing data exchange between space agencies of BRICS members was tested by interaction between designated agencies," Ivanov said.

BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
