EU in cooperation with NEFCO providing 50 mln euros to restore Kiev region's critical infrastructure

MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax) - The European Union in cooperation with the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) is providing 50 million euros to help repair and restore damaged critical infrastructure in the Kiev region of Ukraine, Ukrainian media said, citing the NEFCO press service.

"To increase the resilience of critical infrastructure and communities, the funds will be used for basic municipal services for heating, water and electricity supply, wastewater discharge and waste management. The activities aim to improve living conditions for people in Ukraine who are returning to their homes and internally displaced persons seeking shelter in other communities," according to the press release.

NEFCO launched the Green Recovery for Ukraine program in July 2022. The objective of the program is to undertake rebuilding work in an environmentally sound way, incorporating modern European standards to further catalyze green reconstruction and accelerate sustainable development in Ukraine.

Project preparations, and in some cases implementation, have already begun, and further extensive implementation of projects is expected in early 2023.

NEFCO is an international financial institution that finances the scale-up of Nordic green solutions on international markets. It was founded in 1990 by Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
