Belarus curbs activities of over 50 people linked to foreign special services in past 3 years - TV

MINSK. Dec 15 (Interfax) - Belarus has curbed activities of over 50 people linked to foreign special services in the past three years, the Belarus 1 state-owned TV channel reported on Thursday.

"Unlawful activities of over 50 people linked to foreign special services have been curbed in the past three years, including over 20 in line with criminal procedures," it said.

Foreign special services "are interested primarily in gaining access to classified information circulated within government bodies, ministries, and other agencies," it said.

"The U.S. and its NATO allies have still not ceased attempts to transform the Belarusian social and political system in a way favorable to them. Our neighbors, such as Poland, Ukraine, and the Baltic countries, have been acting more offensively. High-ranking former and active-duty military officers, government officials, and prominent businesspeople have been targeted for recruitment. And foreign intelligence services themselves are keen to plant their agents in the upper echelons of the government and security institutions," it said.
