Canada reinstating sanctions against Nord Stream turbines - statement

WASHINGTON. Dec 15 (Interfax) - Canada has reinstated sanctions against turbines of the Russian Nord Stream gas pipelines, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson said in a statement.

"The government of Canada has decided to revoke time-limited sanctions waiver that was granted to allow turbines being repaired at the Siemens facility in Montreal to be returned to Germany," the statement said.

"Canada is making this decision recognizing that the circumstances around granting the waiver have changed, it no longer serves its intended purpose," it said.

According to the statement, the decision was made in close cooperation with Ukraine, Germany and other European allies.
