Russian govt raises quota on exporting sulfur by 500,000 tonnes

MOSCOW. Dec 13 (Interfax) - The Russian government has raised the quota on exporting sulfur by 500,000 tonnes to 1.6 million tonnes, valid until the end of 2022, and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed the corresponding resolution.

"The decision has been taken in order to support Russian gas processing companies and oil refineries that will have the opportunity to export additional volumes of sulfur given the sufficient saturation of the domestic market with products," the government's press service explained.

The quota on exporting sulfur was introduced for August 10 to December 31, 2022, and its does not apply to sulfur exported to DPR, LPR, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia.

According to the Federal Anti-monopoly Service (FAS), 80% of industrial sulfur is used to produce sulfuric acid, and nearly 80% of sulfuric acid is used to produce mineral fertilizer.
