Russia to withdraw from CoE Criminal Law Convention on Corruption

MOSCOW. Dec 13 (Interfax) - The Russian government has supported a bill on Russia's withdrawal from the Council of Europe Criminal Law Convention on Corruption, a source familiar with the government's draft opinion on the matter told Interfax.

Russia signed the convention in Strasbourg on January 27, 1999. The bill says that Russia's withdrawal from the convention was prompted by the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers' decision to end Russia's membership of the Group of States Against Corruption (GRECO).

Russia's withdrawal from the convention will not involve extra budget financing, the bill says.
