EAEU to create Bank of Climate Technologies, Digital Initiatives

BISHKEK. Dec 9 (Interfax) - The Bank of Climate Technologies and Digital Initiatives is planned to be established as part of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said.

"Our Union's agenda is extensive and fully meets the modern realities. The first package of measures on cooperation of the member states under the climate agenda was passed this October. The establishment of the Bank of Climate Technologies and Digital Initiatives, as well as the development of national and interstate standards in low-carbon technologies, is planned as part of the implementation of this roadmap," Japarov said during a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in an expanded format on Friday.

The decision was also made to launch a pilot project of introducing the mechanism of traceability of goods imported to the EAEU customs territory, he said.

"The testing phase of the project is currently ending, and the pilot project of using navigation seals not only on goods imported from third countries, but also on goods transported as part of mutual trade, is planned to begin," the Kyrgyz leader said.

Japarov expressed confidence that the use of such instruments and mechanisms would alleviate concerns of state bodies of the EAEU member countries about illegal turnover of goods in mutual and external trade.

"I would like to highlight extensive work on liberalization of the services market. It is necessary to work on the reduction of unreasonable license and permit requirements for our businesses while liberalizing the services market," he said.

The EAEU member states are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. Kyrgyzstan is chairing the EAEU bodies in 2022.
