Russian Culture Ministry to deny screening to films containing LGBT propaganda - draft resolution

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) - Russia's Culture Ministry will not issue screening licenses to films containing propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships, pedophilia or sex change, under a draft resolution of the Russian government, entitled "On changes to the rules for the issuance, refusal and revocation of a film screening license," and published on the official website of draft regulations.

Following the recent passage of a federal law, entitled "On changes to the Federal Law 'On information, information technologies and information protection' and certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation," an article regarding motion pictures has been modified to refuse screening licenses to films containing propaganda of pornography, violence and cruelty, non-traditional sexual relations and (or) preferences, pedophilia, and sex change, a memo to the draft said.

In addition, when deciding on the issuance of a screening license, the Culture Ministry may, if necessary, "invite an expert council set up by Russia's Ministry of Culture for film assessment" to assess a film further on the subject of containing prohibited content.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a package of legislation on a total ban of LGBT propaganda.
