Germany plans to stop buying Russian energy in future - Scholz

BERLIN. Dec 8 (Interfax) - Germany will be able to completely stop buying Russian energy resources in the future, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.

"We are making the necessary decisions now to become independent in the long term," Scholz said in an interview to newspapers belonging to the Funke media group.

Scholz said he is confident that Germany will be able to successfully get through the winter and remain a strong industrial power.

Berlin expects to establish new energy import channels, Scholz said. He assumed, however, that the energy prices are unlikely to return to the levels that existed before the conflict in Ukraine.

"Starting 2045, we want to be completely neutral climatically and produce our energy without natural gas, coal, or oil," he said
