Yerevan interested in building railroad to link Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia - Pashinyan

YEREVAN. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and his Azerbaijani and Russian counterparts Shahin Mustafayev and Alexei Overchuk failed to reach consensus at their meeting in Moscow on Tuesday on any specific solutions in terms of restoring regional rail communications, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

"There are no specific results, unfortunately. But Armenia is ready and interested in implementing this program. Armenia is ready to restore the rail network at any moment," Pashinyan said, speaking in parliament at a government Q&A session on Wednesday.

The Armenian government's press service reported earlier on Tuesday that as part of the 11th session of the trilateral working group, the deputy prime ministers discussed issues concerning the construction of a railroad connecting Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia in the region and the development of rail communication and services.

Following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Yerevan in November, Pashinyan hailed positive progress in opening a railroad via Armenian territory to link Azerbaijan with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.

"In the course of discussions with the Russian president, we received certain impulses or information, which means that there might appear a substantial and serious possibility for us to begin working to restore the railroad, specifically the Horadiz-Meghri-Ordubad-Sadarak-Eraskh route," Pashinyan said at the meeting.

Pashinyan said earlier that transport links between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan via Armenia could be reopened at any moment. He also said that rail communication would be organized between Armenia and Russia via Azerbaijan.
