Ukraine still facing considerable power shortage - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Significant shortages persist in Ukraine's energy system on Wednesday morning after the country's power infrastructure facilities were damaged on December 5, and all regional power distribution companies have been informed of the current electricity consumption limits, Ukrainian media outlets quoted the Ukrenergo power grid operator as saying on social media.

These limits were exceeded in a number of regions, causing the authorities to resort to emergency blackouts, Ukrenergo said. The power supply situation in the east of the country remains difficult.

"Round-the-clock emergency repairs are continuing," it said.

"Efforts are also continuing to help nuclear power plants return to their routine capacity after their generating units which had to conduct shutdowns as power lines were damaged. Repair teams are also working in Kiev and Odessa regions, where they are restoring power supplies using backup circuits," Ukrenergo said.

CEO of the Yasno power supplier Sergei Kovalenko, in turn, has said that the amount of electricity available in Kiev on December 6 was 62%-67% of the usual consumption levels. Emergency blackouts are continuing in the Ukrainian capital.
