Tokayev receives Lithuanian FM, describes Lithuania as Kazakhstan's priority partner in EU

ASTANA. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, currently on an official visit to Astana, on Wednesday, the Kazakh presidential press service said.

"The sides discussed prospects of the development of Kazakh-Lithuanian relations with emphasis on the strengthening of trade, economic and investment cooperation, and interaction in international organizations," the statement, published on the presidential website, said.

Tokayev described Lithuania as "a priority partner" of Kazakhstan in the Baltic region and the European Union.

"The importance of boosting intergovernmental cooperation and broadening interaction between the business communities of the two countries in the fields of transport, logistics, construction and manufacturing industries was underlined," the statement said.

Landsbergis conveyed greetings and best wishes from Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda to Tokayev and said that Lithuania viewed Kazakhstan as a leading trade and economic partner in Central Asia.

The sides exchanged views on current global affairs, the press service said.
