Ukrainian agribusiness sector requests over 1,000 power generators from int'l partners, provision of 25 approved for now - Agrarian Policy Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has appealed to all partner-states to help in procuring 1,125 power generators for the agribusiness sector, and Germany has confirmed the provision of 25 generators.

Deputy Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Markiyan Dmitrasevich made this announcement at a roundtable conference dealing with the Ukrainian agribusiness sector's urgent needs for resilience and recovery and organized with support from the European Union and the World Bank, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the ministry's website on Tuesday.

The ministry is simultaneously negotiating the matter with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Dmitrasevich said.

"Everyone has felt blackout implications. The most vulnerable sectors in the agricultural industry are cattle breeding and processing. We're working on covering at least part of the demand for 1,125 generators," the ministry quoted Dmitrasevich as saying.

Yuriy Duchenko, first vice president of the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers and director of Kiev's largest bread and bakery producer Kyivkhlib, told Ukrainian journalists that Ukrainian bakers, along with the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry, have requested generators from international partners and expect them to arrive in Ukraine within one or two months.
