Russian energy company could become contractor for HPP in Myanmar
MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - A Russian energy company could participate in the project to construct a hydroelectric power plant in Myanmar, according to the materials of Russia's Economic Development Ministry for a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation that was held on Monday in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, and chaired by Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov.
"There are plans for a Russian company to participate as a contractor in the project to construct a hydroelectric power plant on the Paung Laung River in Myanmar," according to the document.
As the state resource of the country, Myanmar National Portal, reported in the autumn, representatives of Myanmar met with Inter RAO Export during Russian Energy Week. The report also noted that Myanmar and Thailand's PTG signed a document on the launch of operations to develop a hydroelectric project on the Paung Laung River.
RBC in the summer reported that representatives of Myanmar held talks with Inter RAO during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on modernizing and constructing power stations. The company then confirmed to the publication that the country's authorities had asked it to participate in modernization projects, and Inter RAO Export was studying potential projects.
Inter RAO Export has previously considered projects for itself for modernizing thermal power plants in Myanmar with total capacity of 146.55 MW, as was reported in the company's materials from 2015.
