Ukraine stocks record 260,000 cubic meters of firewood - Forestry Agency head
MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian State Forestry Resources Agency's enterprises have formed a record large supply of 260,000 cubic meters of firewood nationwide, Ukrainian media reported with reference to a social media post by the agency's chief, Yury Bolokhovets.
The amount of firewood being prepared is also record large and is significantly above the rate at which it is being sold, Bolokhovets said. Another 314,000 cubic meters of firewood should be prepared in December, he said.
The Forestry Agency is supplying firewood to eastern and southern parts of Ukraine, and large amounts of it have also been provided to the military, he said.
"The situation in the Ukrainian energy sector is very challenging. The worst-case scenarios can't be ruled out. But the country is provided with firewood. Forestry farms have applied maximum effort this year to make sure that Ukrainians have heating," he said.
As reported earlier, the Ukrainian government is continuing to prepare and sell firewood for Ukrainians, and forestry farms plan to sell 1.1 million cubic meters of firewood domestically by the end of 2022. Since the start of the year, 2.44 million cubic meters of firewood has been sold in Ukraine, and its stock reserves stood at about 187,000 cubic meters as of mid-November.
