EU to allot 20 mln euros to integrating Moldova's railways with European transport network

CHISINAU. Dec 2 (Interfax) - The European Union will allocate a grant of 20 million euros to rehabilitate Moldova's railroads, the press service for the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova said.

The funds will be directed to a project to integrate Moldova's railroads with the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

The European Commission and the European Investment Bank have begun a technical study to connect Moldova and Ukraine to TEN-T, the press service said.

The European Commission announced adjustments to its proposal on TEN-T stipulating extending four EU transport corridors to the territory of Ukraine and Moldova at the end of July, taking into account the consequences of Russia's military operation.

TEN-T is an EU transport policy strategy put forth in 2014 to connect countries of the European Union and its European partners from west to east and north to south through a network of roads, railways, airports, and water infrastructure.
