Rosatom head calls for swift creation of security zone around Zaporozhye NPP

SAMARKAND. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Russia has presented its stance on the creation of a security zone around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, and further solution to the problem does not depend on Moscow, Rosatom General Director Alexei Likhachev said.

"Negotiations [on the establishment of a security zone] are in progress, but the ball is not in our court," Likhachev said.

Russia has made its stance clear and is waiting for an answer, Likhachev said. "Our representative in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov [Russian permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna] is actively at work. [...] However, the ball is not in the court of Russia, Moscow," he said.

As to when the security zone may be created, Likhachev said, "Of course, it would make sense to do this as soon as possible or else it would look like stalling."
