EU discussion over Russian oil price cap continues - EC rep

BRUSSELS. Dec 1 (Interfax) - European Union members have yet to agree on the cap on Russian oil prices, this work continues, European Commission (EC) spokesman Daniel Sheridan Ferrie said.

"We continue to work closely with our international partners in the G7 and also with all member states in the Council on the oil price cap. As I think you know already, an agreement has not been reached, but we will continue to work closely with everybody," Ferrie said at a briefing in Brussels on Thursday, when asked to comment on the situation.

Earlier on Thursday, The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that the EC had proposed setting the cap at $60 per barrel.

"The European Commission, the European Union's executive body, has asked the bloc's 27 member states to approve a price cap on Russian oil of $60 a barrel, according to people familiar with the matter," the paper said.

High-ranking EU representatives began discussing the initiative on Thursday, it said.

Initially, the EU countries were supposed to announce their agreement by the end of November.
