South Ukraine NPP connects generating unit to grid

MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant reconnected one of its generating units to the grid on Wednesday morning, Ukrainian media said, quoting Vitaly Kim, head of the Nikolayev regional military administration.

"It will take 29 hours to ramp up to nominal capacity," Kim said on Telegram, without giving any other details.

All the power units of the Rovno, South Ukraine and Khmelnytsky NPPs were disconnected on November 23 due to a frequency drop in Ukraine's energy system as all regions of Ukraine experienced blackouts. The nuclear plants had to rely on emergency diesel generators. Rovno has four units with total capacity of 2.835 GW, South Ukraine has three units with 1 GW each and Khmelnytsky has two units with combined capacity of 2 GW.
