Capacity deficit in Ukraine's energy system down to 27% - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - The capacity deficit in Ukraine's energy system stood at 27% as of 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday as compared to 30% at the same time of the day on Tuesday, Ukrainian media outlets quoted the Ukrenergo power grid operator as saying in a social media post.

"Power generation is growing gradually, which makes it possible to somewhat reduce the shortages in the energy system. The consumption limits for every region have been made known to all distribution system operators (regional power distribution companies). Exceeding these consumption limits makes us resort to emergency blackouts in order to avoid any grid overload and to maintain the balance in the energy system," Ukrenergo said.

As reported, there was a total blackout in Ukraine's energy system on Wednesday, November 23, and efforts have been ongoing since then to restore the system. Ukraine faced a 50% power shortage in the evening on November 24. The power shortage decreased to 30% on Friday morning, to 25% on Saturday morning, and to 20% on Sunday morning.

However, it again grew to 27% on Monday morning, because a number of power plants had to conduct emergency shutdowns.
