U.S. allocates $53 mln for Ukraine to buy electrical grid equipment

WASHINGTON. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The United States will allocate $53 million for Ukraine to buy necessary electrical grid equipment, the State Department said in a statement on Tuesday.

"This supply package will include distribution transformers, circuit breakers, surge arresters, disconnectors, vehicles and other key equipment," the statement said.

The latest aid package was announced by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the sidelines of a NATO ministerial meeting in Bucharest.

He said the aid would be in addition to the previous tranche, $55 million, aimed at restoring power and heat supplies to Ukraine's cities disrupted by attacks on Ukraine's grid.
