Moskvich plant to produce all-Russian car in 2025 - dep mayor
MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - The Moskvich car factory will produce a car made entirely from Russian components on a Russian platform in 2025, said Maxim Liksutov, Moscow's deputy mayor responsible for transport.
"We have instructions from Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin that the Moskvich plant must produce a car from Russian components and on a Russian platform in a few years. We are working on this task together with Kamaz , and I am sure that we can handle it. The target year is 2025, when there should already be a car," the Moscow City Transport Department quoted Liksutov as saying.
He said serial assembly was underway at the plant, and localization should be on a par with the Renault plant before the French car maker left Russia by the end of next year.
"Some of the body parts will be made here, and we will buy Russian tires. Each year will see the maximum localization of components," he said.
The Transport Department said Moskvich would produce around 50,000 cars next year. Some of them will go towards renewing the carsharing fleet in Moscow, the Moscow region and other regions.
Serial assembly of cars at the Moskvich plant began on November 23. The first model after the plant's restart is the Moskvich-3 crossover. The first cars should go on sale in December.
