Start of drilling at Zhenis offshore block scheduled for Dec 15 - KazMunayGas

ALMATY. Nov 25 (Interfax) - Management of KazMunayGas (KMG) and Lukoil , respectively, have discussed cooperating in the area of offshore geological exploration in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, particularly implementing the joint Zhenis and Kalamkas-Sea/Khazar projects, KMG's press service said.

"As part of the Zhenis project, there are plans to start mobilizing the Dada Gurgud semi-submersible drilling rig on December 1, and start drilling on December 15 of this year," the press service said.

As noted, KMG and Lukoil in June 2022 signed an additional agreement on the commercial terms and conditions of joint implementation for the Kalamkas-Sea/Khazar project.

"Simultaneous work is underway to amend the legislation of Kazakhstan in order to adopt an improved model contract for subsoil use in the area of hydrocarbon raw materials. Following adoption of the improved model contract, the parties will be able to submit documents to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan in order to obtain and conclude a contract for subsoil use," according to the press release.
