IAEA director general and Russian delegation discuss Zaporozhye NPP

BRUSSELS. Nov 23 (Interfax) - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi met with a Russian delegation led by Rosatom head Alexei Likhachyov to discuss the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and steps to establish a nuclear safety and security protection zone around the facility, the IAEA said on Wednesday.

"IAEA Director General met a Russian delegation led Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachyov in Istanbul today for consultations on operational aspects related to safety at Zaporozhye NPP," the IAEA said.

The parties also discussed the need to urgently create a nuclear safety and security protection zone around the facility, it said.

The Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and operates six VVER-1000 power units. According to official information, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has been under the control of the Russian Armed Forces since February 28.
