European court rejects EuroChem's appeal to lift anti-dumping duties on UAN

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) - The European General Court has dismissed EuroChem's suit to lift anti-dumping duties on urea-ammonium nitrate (UAN) from Russia, according to the Official Journal of the EU.

A similar decision was made in a lawsuit filed by Trinidad and Tobago UAN producer Methanol Holdings.

The plaintiffs (on behalf of EuroChem Group these were Nevinnomyssky Azot and Novomoskovskiy Azot) demanded cancellation of the European Commission's decision of October 2019 to impose permanent anti-dumping duties on UAN imports from Russia, the US, as well as Trinidad and Tobago. The duties were imposed for 5 years and amounted to 27.77 euro/tonne for EuroChem, 42.47 euro/tonne for Akron and other producers from Russia, 22.24 euro/tonne for Trinidad and Tobago, and 29.48 euro/tonne for suppliers from the United States.

Europe is a major UAN market, along with the U.S. and Canada, accounting for about a quarter of global sales of this type of fertilizer. According to the European Commission, Russian producers accounted for about 10% of the European UAN market at the start of the investigation.
