Customs subcommittee backs proposal to raise Russian grain export quota to 25.5 mln t in 2023

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) - The subcommittee for customs tariff regulation has supported the Russian Agriculture Ministry's proposal to increase the grain export quota to 25.5 million tonnes in 2023 from 11 million tonnes in 2022, Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko reported on her Telegram channel.

The quota will be raised given the country's record harvest, she said. "Russia broke the all-time record for the grain harvest this year - more than 150 million tonnes!" Abramchenko said.

"Thus, we are completely covering the country's domestic needs for the most important agricultural crops and gaining additional potential to increase exports. Therefore, it is extremely important to use the tools of customs tariff regulation and reduce barriers to the sale of products on foreign markets," Abramchenko said.

"Although, of course, the domestic food market is the priority," she added.

The quota for exports of grain - wheat, meslin (wheat and rye mix), rye, barley and corn - will be in effect from February 15 to June 30, 2023. The quota does not apply to shipments of grain to Eurasian Economic Union countries.
