Former ambassador Pyatt to coordinate U.S. energy support for Ukraine

MOSCOW. Nov 10 (Interfax) - The U.S. Department of State has appointed former U.S. Ambassador in Kiev Geoffrey Pyatt as coordinator for helping Ukraine repair, support and bolster its energy sector.

"Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt was instructed to coordinate energy support for Ukraine by the U.S. government with international partners," Ukrainian media said with reference to the Voice of America, which, in turn, cited Department of State spokesperson Ned Price.

Pyatt is uniquely qualified for the job, having served as U.S. ambassador to Ukraine from 2013 to 2016, Price said.

"Within the U.S. government, the State Department will work with the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, the United States Agency for International Development, and the National Security Council to evaluate requests from the government of Ukraine and identify resources or equipment that may be suitable for the task," the Department of State spokesperson said.
