EC to allocate 66 mln euros for cross-border cooperation between Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine

MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - More than 66 million euros will be allocated under the first Interreg NEXT European cross-border cooperation program for Ukraine's partnership with Hungary, Slovakia and Romania in the sectors of health, environment and an efficacious public administration, the European Commission (EC) said.

"This programme is part of the overall support and unwavering solidarity of the EU towards Ukraine. Under Cohesion Policy, Interreg will help Ukraine and bordering Member States to face common challenges and grasp common opportunities," EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira is quoted by Ukrainian media as saying.

The program covers the period between 2021 and 2027. Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine are expected to jointly work on ensuring equal access to health services and increasing the sustainability of their healthcare systems.

The program will back solutions for climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention. The countries involved in the program will cooperate in protecting nature, developing the green infrastructure, and tourism.

The program will also help aligning the EU member states and Ukraine's standards for an efficient public administration, the European Commission communique said.
