Ukraine takes over chairmanship of Commission for Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources

MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Ukraine has taken over chairmanship of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, Ukrainian Education and Science Minister Sergei Shkarlet said.

"The 41st session of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, during which Ukraine took over chairmanship of this organization, has concluded in Australia. Ukraine has headed the Commission for the first time since it became its member in 1994. Vitali Tsymbalyuk, a Ukrainian diplomat and former Ukrainian ambassador to the Republic of Chile, has become its new chair," Ukraine media quoted Shkarlet as saying on social media.

This decision will empower Ukraine to promote its scientific and fishing interests in Antarctica, he said.

In addition, the Ukrainian research vessel Noosphere should be engaged in environmental, oceanological, and biological research of Antarctic waters, he said.
